For more than 25 years Scenic has been taking guests to Canada and Alaska.

With breathtaking landscapes, rugged wilderness, unique wildlife and a vibrant cultural mix, they have become two of our guests’ favourite destinations.

Each day on a Scenic escorted land tour offers iconic experiences, from a multi-day rail journey on the famed Rocky Mountaineer or a cruise through Alaska’s Inside Passage to Scenic Special Stays at luxurious Fairmont hotels, a visit to Niagara Falls and discovering the charms of Quebec City.

And for guests about to embark on a Scenic journey into the Great White North, there’s even more in store. Thanks to our decades of expertise and close relationships with local operators, we have developed exclusive, immersive experiences to take our guests beyond what you’ll find on any other land journey. Here are five of the best.

Discover the flavours of the foothills

Get a taste of Canada’s Old West along the historic Cowboy Trail, a 700km route across the high ranching country of Alberta in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This rugged region has become one of Canada’s top gourmet destinations. You’ll travel the Cowboy Trail on a journey from Calgary to Banff and meet the passionate producers, visit a bison ranch, and sit down to a special Farm to Fork welcome lunch of delectable local fare prepared by an expert chef.

Soar above the Arctic Circle

At just past 66° north, the Arctic Circle crosses over the North American mainland, marking the mythical boundary between the civilised world and the great unknown beyond. From the city of Fairbanks, board a plane and fly north, crossing over the Arctic Circle, admiring the magnificent scenery below and touching down at a remote community. You will even receive a certificate to commemorate your journey. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is usually valued up to $1,500, but with Scenic, it’s included in the cost of your land journey.

Learn from a black bear expert

Michael Allen has dedicated his life to black bears, spending more than 30 years studying these remarkable creatures. When visiting Whistler, Scenic guests can join an insightful and inspiring session with this wildlife expert. You will have exclusive access to his decades of knowledge and personal connection to the bears, many of whom he has followed since they were cubs.

Enjoy a meal with a difference in Ottawa

Ottawa, the cosmopolitan capital of Canada, has a diverse and delicious food scene where innovative chefs pair local flavours with foods from around the world. On this unique progressive dining experience, you’ll eat your way around three of the best restaurants in the buzzy ByWard Market district. With one course at each venue, you’ll get to sample an exquisite dish chosen by the chef while you learn about the history of the neighbourhood and the gourmet culture of the city.

Discover magic beneath the ice

Each winter, you can walk above a natural work of art at Abraham Lake, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Methane gas forms spectacular bubbles beneath the surface of the clear ice, creating an otherworldly vista beneath your feet. On our wintertime Christmas in the Rockies land journey, you can set out on a helicopter flight to marvel at the snowy landscapes from above then walk across the frozen surface of Abraham Lake. Bring your camera to capture some extraordinary photos.

Find this on the 14 day Christmas in the Rockies itinerary.
